Here are some more postings of shots taken with my newish Caplio GX100

I really like this little cam, apart from the problems with noise.
I would be much more willing to recommend this cam to my friends if there was less grain in the images.

  1. [this is good] Nice, liked the peeling paint and bark.

  2. Yeah, I don't know what it was that made me want to take a photo. But the peeling was a big part of it.

  3. [this is good] Wow, where'd you take them? Wouldn't it be great if we were able to take the story out of those photos?

  4. [this is good] Nice shots mate.  I think the 'peeling' and woodgrain would be brought out more if you converted it into b&w.  Nice all the same.

I do like the grainy, or 'noisy', effect of the gx100 - which i acquired a week ago.  It sort of gives a 'rustic' feel to the image, which would complement well with your last two shots.  Some have said that the grain is film camera-like.  Not 'fake' noise like what one might get with a sony, etc - though their noise reduction in the latest camera basically turns the pic into a painting and throws out a wealth of detail.

I would, and have recommended it.  Absolutely love this professional compact - as do quite a few other professional DSLR users who have it as a 'carry along'.

Great choice mate.  You should try IR photography with it - with a hoya r72 filter.

  5. Hi, Thanks for the tip. I've been meaning to try the new B&W conversion in CS3 for a while now. I'll read the help file and play around with it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm really attached to the GX100. I capture most things in DNG which is damn handy when pumping it into PotatoShop.
And the Wide angle bolt on lens is brilliant too. and as a bonus I can screw on a polarizing lens.
I'm heartened by what you've said about the grain and I'll try to ignore it.
It's a great little form factor, and It's got all the features I had on my list.

    Thanks for the note.
