  1. [this is good] Aww, look at those little guys! I love them, especially the red stripe. It's very dramatic. Are they common birds?

  2. What exactly are they after in the grassy potholes? And they appear so comfortable around people; are they related to pigeons?

  3. Hi Dave, this is great and I would be in my element taking photographs in that park.  Where is it?  Would you be willing to post this video on my Group http://wildlifephotography.groups.vox.com/.  I'm sure the members would enjoy this. You are also very welcome to join by the way!

  5. Evening ladies, hope the planet is treating you all well.

Yep, these little buggers are super cute.
That's the crazy thing about Oz. Everything is eather bloody cute, or out to kill you ;-)

I don't know how common they are beyond my own perception bubble. Centennial park in the middle of Sydney is the only place that I've seen them.

Since I'm mainly a 'bird perve,' I have few details to share on what these crazy buggers are up to. They could be looking for eather food or gold in those ditches that they have excavated.
Boy they make a mess of the lawn ;-)
They seem to be more related to Cockatoos then pidgins. Possibly a bit of Fruit bat in their DNA too?

  7. p.s. snagged from the Net:
It mostly feeds on the ground, eating seeds including cereal crops such as wheat and barley. It is so common that it has become something of a pest throughout much of Australia, and can be destructive to the trees in which it perches, by chewing the bark off smaller twigs.

  8. Ahh, just a common pest then.

Their relative the Cockatoo is famous for destroying roofs by aggressive group chewing.
