My friends and I had a HUGE time at the Roller Derby on Saturday.
Highly recommend this sporting event to everyone. Great skills and
tactics are employed as opposing teams try to block the nominated point
scorers from lapping the circuit.
The event was extremely well organized. I've never seen comedy fire
twirling before, and commend the Roller Derby for exploring new genres
of entertainment. I came back from grabbing a Turkish pide out in the
fore court to find that a duo of fire wranglers had set fire to the
stadium floor. An audience member ventured out into no-mans-land
(spectators are throw out of the venue if they venture out onto the
ring) to help squelch the blaze.
Happy to say that the team I decided to support (the SAS or 'Screaming
assault sirens') sight unseen 'wiped the lemon fresh floor' with their
opponents (the concrete floor had been doused with lemonade to add a
bit o grip for the skaters on the painted concrete floor).
Fine match, and was very impressed with the commitment to winning I saw
sparkling in the eyes of both teams. My friends and I were all stunned
at the amount of 'argy bargy' going down, and hope both teams mend in
time for their next bouts (gotta give a HUGE thumbs up to the SAS girls
who were sliding into the penalty box at speed on their knees ;-)

It’s taken me a week to get the videos cut up (filling in the spaces in-between bursts of gainful employment.)
This event was held on Sunday off Sydney’s Eastern beaches.
The course is drawn between the first two Surf Life Saving clubs in the world.
Starting in front of Bondi Surf Club, it runs out from Bondi, around McKenzies point and down the coast into Bronte Beach. A distance of 2.2 - 2.5km (depending on the positioning of the buoy off McKenzies point).
I was pretty impressed watching this mass of people swim out of the bay, down the coast, and then back in to shore.
There were young ones, oldies, chunky and thin.
They were carefully watched the whole time by the ‘water safety’ folks.

A couple of weeks back, I went to see Oz lose a soccer match to Uruguay (our sworn enemies as it was us that knocked them out of contention for the last World Cup.)
Pretty amazing the carnival that had been erected around the parameter of the stadium. All most medieval town surrounding a castle type vibe.
It’s amazing how much people drink (this includes myself) at a sporting event like this.
I’ve just finished a short ‘filming a documentary’ coarse and though this piece is a ‘home movie’ (this was my teachers opinion which is pretty valid) but I’ve been trying to put into practice what I’ve learnt in class. Especially in the audio.
